I make sculptures primarily out of wood but use other mediums. Art has always been a part of my life but was put on hold when me and my wife Judy had children, then I became a stay-at-home Dad. I rediscovered my passion for art while running the Art Docent program at my children's elementary school in Washington State. Using both power tools and hand tools I transform wood, metal, plastic, and other solids into sculptural pieces.
Whether taking simple pictures, carving wood, welding metals, playing guitar or writing poetry my passion is in creating. An active visual artist, woodcarver and musician I am always creating. A chance encounter with architect Paolo Soleri in Arizona while attending college directed me to take architecture, design, and woodworking courses as well as my business studies. I am a current Kent Arts Commissioner and member of the Auburn Valley Creative Arts.
I use many different mediums, such as wood, metal, clay, acrylics, and glass.
My pieces are inspired by the natural world and local histories. I feel the need to connect or anchor myself to my community and I attempt this with my art. While my pieces are planned out carefully I am not afraid to follow the tangents that inevitably appear.
